The Beast of Birkenshaw Murdered Eight People In Cold Blood

Known as the Beast of Birkenshaw, Peter Manuel haunted the streets of Scotland in the late 1950s.

Everyone knows that it is common for a serial killer to make the newspaper’s front pages. But, only a few are marked in history as the most dangerous criminals. One such infamous killer was 31-year-old Peter Manuel, who brought destruction and misery wherever he went.

People in Scotland were terrified of stepping outside their homes for fear of encountering the Beast of Birkenshaw. It was nothing short of a nightmare come true.

Peter was born to his parents, Samuel Manuel and Bridget Manuel, on 13 March 1927 in New York. They lived there until Peter was 5-years-old before moving back to their native country Scotland in 1932. They settled down at Birkenshaw, but Peter found adjusting to the new environment challenging.

One year after getting out of the detention center, 15-year-old Peter began a series of brutal attacks. He broke into his teacher’s house and hit his sleeping wife on the head with an axe. In a second incident, he tried to rape the wife of his school’s faculty member. Shortly after, police caught him, and he was convicted for nine years in Peterhead jail in 1946.
