Mentors and discussing customer acquisition

First question!

Ryan as an entrepreneur, what are some of your insights as to why someone should discuss their mentor’s customer acquisition?

Acquiring customers comes in so many shapes and forms. There is a lot that every business owner needs to learn about customer acquisition. It’s important to discuss these questions with your mentors so to gain an understanding of the different ways that you can go out and find your own customers. There are specific things that I will say on this topic, that someone else will have completely different things to say. Thus, it’s critical topic of discussion.

Who is your ideal customer and how did you figure this out?

Ryan: I found my ground work from working with my brother and dad who are both chiropractors. It’s a niche market obviously, and digital marketing was hardly a thing for competitors and most other medicine/private practioners. That being said, after getting my dad’s website up and running with SEO and paid advertising here and there, his competitors and colleagues began to notice and as a result naturally needed to find out and it’s been a referral business every since. My own personal website has been in the works this year now and that is only because my customers have come on a referral basis.

Being a digital marketer, their are a variety of skills you need. Have you had other unconventional work commissions?

Yes! Another line of work that I do is helping with Kickstarter campaigns. Ive been lucky enough to build a good reputation for knowing kickstarter campaigns and what is important for helping them go viral. A referral basis is where the majority of my customers come from. Which is also the strongest way for me to aquire customers. What people hear and see is a lot of smart and focused decision making for familiar work. There are a host of people out there that can do the same things I can, but I have had the advantage of learning early on the mistakes and other details that people will miss.

How much time is spent each week with customers and what is your advice in finding new customers?

Ryan: Because it’s a digital landscape by which I work with my clients our meetings happen on a monthly basis. I will send reports weekly to show my clients the progress that is being made or how their money is being used. Typically once a month I will actually sit down or communicate with my clients to go over details or other things. Occasionally this will happen more than once a month in the beginning when someone starts a contract.

What tips do you have for me in learning more about my competitors and what I can do to be better than them?

Ryan: Competitor research is always something that people shy away from. And it is a shame because so many mistakes or other important decisions can be made by simply doing the research into businesses. How do they acquire customers, how do they use social media, how do they promote their products? These are basic questions that, if asked, could change the whole game of someone’s business model, help them adjust to stand out and be better.
