Delusions of Grandeur? Or Reaching for the Stars?

Delusions of Grandeur usually have a negative connotation. And I can agree on this for the most part. These Delusions usually have to do with grand perceptions of ourselves that have nothing to do with ‘reality.’ They are feelings of incompetency that compensating for a negative sense of self-worth. That’s when they become Delusions. Deluding yourself into thinking that you have Grand Ideas when all you have (really) is Wishes for being recognized. That is not going to get you anywhere, but Nowhere.

When I was 18, I thought I would (by the age of 30) be a Known Name in the Art World. Would be a Rock and Roll Star (who didn’t?). And that I would have shot and directed my first film, which — btw — I would have starred in.

Of course, it didn’t happen. But these weren’t delusions of grandeur, but delusions of what I was capable of at that age, being someone who was generally having a hard time coping, much less being All That.

There are Delusions of Grandeur that DO get certain people Places. Take that ‘former President’ who blew up his aspirations (to compensate for Daddy Hating him) by Using Others to do his will. He is still doing this to this very day.

Using People can get you a lot of things. Wealth, Fame, Wealth… But never real Glory. It gets you a ‘name’ (often a bad one). Trumpf had to create shell companies to get Construction Companies to work for him because he was known to File Bankruptcy in order to keep his “ill-gotten gains” by NOT PAYing those companies after the job was finished.

But Grandeur can be rewarded, if you have foundations — and actual accomplishments — to back your ‘bragging’ up. Create actual results, instead of generating empty promises.

Because doing Great Things needs that ‘delusion;’ the idea that you can accomplish those great things. Having a Vision of What you want to Create and then following through and doing it.
