Why Do I Write?

A Question For Myself

Why do people write? What are the compelling forces behind this constructive activity that has kept human history in record, education, and knowledge documented, and literature alive?

People started writing to share information, keep in touch with others and record history for future generations.

Books were written by hand and it was a very dedicated and time taking job. That is why books were considered a valuable asset at that time.

Then printing press brought the revolution to the world, and finally, it became possible to publish newspapers and magazines on a daily basis.

Recently E-reading made it even easier to explore the world of written content.

Now coming back to our question, why do I write? That I asked myself last night.

Reading has been my hobby since childhood. Books like “The railway children” and “A little princess” are still my favorites. Sitting in a quiet corner peacefully with a book in my hand used to be and still is my favorite pass time. And if it accompanies a snack or drinks then what could be better?

People say writers are introverts, yes I am, and every artist is because creativity is a painful process and an introvert has to go through it every time they create a painting, music, poetry, writing, etc. But in the end, there is a strong feeling of satisfaction and completeness that is unmatchable. Ultimately, everybody needs those quiet and peaceful moments for self-evaluation, and introverts are no exception.

Reading creates fantasies in my mind and I always used to think about how would I write if I had to sketch down the same situation or thoughts in words.Though I get to discuss topics of mutual interest with my family and friends, still I try to document what I feel and think every now and then.

Weaving your unique thoughts into creative content feels like a sigh of relief. It is like a valuable belonging. It is as if I don’t have to find appropriate words and topics according to the listener: instead, I will write what I feel like and the reader will find my piece of writing by itself.

Sometimes I want to share my personal experiences, while other times I am going through a self-catharsis that draws me into an improvement phase, and its intensity even increases when I pen it down. Like this story,

There are times when emotions are too deep, and I don’t need a listener at that point; instead, I’m relieved to know that someone can read it or relate to it later. Such as when I wrote this article for my late mother.

When friends or colleagues discuss a trending topic in a social media group and everyone contributes their knowledge and information, I feel compelled to mold it into an article or story to share with readers.

So I write whenever I have information or a very positive message to share. I then hope that like-minded people will find it, and it will put a smile on their faces, spark them to improve themselves or motivate someone on the verge of hopelessness.
